Impermanence creates growth – have you ever noticed that? Without change, the seed couldn’t crack open for the seedling. It would have to stay a seed forever. Without change, the heart couldn’t crack open for the emergence of love. It would have to stay guarded forever.
Even death plays a powerful role in the creation of life – in all its forms. Mystical psychology (which differs from our ordinary way of looking at things) operates with the notion that death is not the end of life.
Life uses birth and death (and other opposites) to create its journey. Physical death is only the end of a part of life – the journey that enjoys exploring in human, animal, or botanical form. For us, it is the end of our experience as we currently know it, on this plane of reality.
Life is nothing but change – literally happening right before your eyes – moment to moment. When you disregard, overlook, deny, or refute the reality of change, you miss the flow of life. The problem arises when you try to control change – and that’s exactly what your unconscious mind wants you to do. It wants you to say ‘no‘ to change because it’s risky – and it values safety more.
But we want both safety and risk. We control because we’re convinced we’re missing something, and we want it. But are we really missing anything? Have you ever tried to contemplate the ‘here and now‘ at a precise point in time? If not, give it a try this minute. In the actual moment, it’s hard to find anything that’s missing. You’ll find that you have to admit everything is fine – unless your mind is showing you stories about what’s unfolding – making it good or bad, right or wrong.
Our stories always include some interpretation of the moment: horribly wrong, wonderfully right, sadly missing, or gratefully present. Seeing this with your own eyes is quite an eye-opener.
Inside your mind, life is troublesome when risky, and safe when secure. Outside your mind, there’s no story and no comparison. There are just the facts – the ‘facticity of what is in the moment‘. Curiously, that makes life’s intrinsic beauty very obvious.
I encourage you to keep exploring, inquiring, delving into the moments as they arise and pass away to discover for yourself – again and again – how every moment is perfect … when perceived from the mystical point of view.
This could be impermanence’s greatest gift – the opportunity to see the creative perfection of life – as it is – again and again. Take a good look and test it out for yourself.
Much love,
Ragini
